We believe children should have the opportunity to learn an instrument, and so offer two classes the opportunity to learn with their class teacher and a visiting instrumental specialist each year.  We strongly believe that this should be available for all regardless of circumstance or background.

In line with the National Plan for Music Education, the programmes which are available are high quality, inspiring and an ideal platform for the pupils to continue their instrumental learning.  Our experiences in recent years have given pupils the opportunity to engage in high quality music making and the children’s enjoyment can be clearly seen both in lessons and when performing to parents at in-school concerts, or performing at concerts in the local area.

In school we offer:

  • Year 3 Ukulele
  • Year 5 Recorders

As well as the important musical benefits of the programme, it is also recognised that there are many further opportunities for developing skills such as:

  • Increased focus and concentration
  • Memory
  • Working as a team
  • Commitment and motivation
  • Greater independent learning
  • Enhancing critical thinking
  • Managing behaviour problems
  • Emotional development
