Our Curriculum

What is the Intent of our Curriculum?

At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, our knowledge-rich curriculum, entwined by skills which are the by-product of the knowledge, is designed to build on children’s prior learning and experiences by fostering resilience, encouraging children’s thirst for new experiences and developing the skills of enquiry enabling children to speak clearly and confidently about their learning.

We do this by providing the highest possible standards for the children in our care. Through challenging, stimulating creative and inspirational opportunities, we enable children to make connections between their knowledge and skills and work independently and collaboratively.

Children leave St Mary’s belonging to a tightly-knit school community. They have the confidence to make significant decisions through peer and self-reflection and have aspirations and high expectations of themselves, enabling them to enhance their cultural capital and know about life beyond Grimsby.

Please take a look at the key documents which evidence the sequential, progressive and ambitious curriculum which we provide for all our children at St Mary’s.

EYFS Curriculum

Our EYFS curriculum documents detail the curriculum for our youngest children. They clearly demonstrate the links between all subject areas.

Subject Long Term Plans

Each subject long term plan details the key invaluable knowledge and vocabulary taught in each year group, to enable us to provide a knowledge rich curriculum, where skills are the by-product of the knowledge taught. Some curriculum areas follow a carefully selected scheme, which is also detailed in each document. There is a clear rationale behind the reason each scheme has been chosen. In addition, curriculum lessons are also enhanced with carefully matched and purposeful resources, which meet the individual needs of all our learners.
