To begin our new Geography topic ‘Continents and Oceans’ children recapped on their knowledge from year 1 to label the world’s 7 continents and 5 oceans. They also learnt how to use an atlas to locate these. Children have learnt the four cardinal compass points, North, East, South and West by using a map and following directions. Children learnt that a map has a key with symbols to help us know the information and geographical features of that place. They then created their own map with a key. Children have decided what are the physical and human characteristics of a country are.
In our Beginnings topic children have explored how God made the world and everything in it. They began by learning the story of Creation and went on to think about how they feel about being one of God’s creations, his ‘children of God’, and how he is with them for their every new beginning. They even wrote their own morning prayer for the beginning of each new day.
In Year 2 the ‘look run avoid’ unit has an important focus upon pupil’s movement skills. Pupils consider how they can use ‘look run avoid’ to evade defenders.
Using concrete resources in Year 2 to help understand different ways to partition numbers.
In this lesson children learnt how plants have adapted to protect themselves from being eaten by animals. They explored different ways they do this before writing and drawing examples of this.
