Welcome to Year 1! We are so excited to be the team teaching your children this year and we have lots of fun, engaging activities and topics planned!
On the 10th May, we were very lucky to have Father Andrew in school. He looked at our RE display and e presented him with a card the children made in honour of Pentecost Day.
Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the twelve disciples. This is when the disciples felt a rushing wind, tongues of fire and spoke in other tongues.
Father Andrew said he would take the card to the churches and present it on the alter so all can see during this time.
On Thursday 21st March, we took a trip to Cleethorpes seafront. We took a walk along the train staton and looked at the differences between the old buildings and new buildings before watching a train pull into the station!
We walked long to Papa’s and talked about what it used to be back in Victorian Cleethorpes, walking to the end of the pier to look out at the sea and looking over the beach.
We wandered up to Ross Castle, stopping at the maze which the children enjoyed before walking to Pier Gardens for lunch. After lunch, we walked towards the leisure centre along the prom.
We had such a lovely day 😊
Also Miss Boyd liked running through some of the photos 😂
Year 1 doing very well with their writing skills.
In our RE topic,we are learning the words used in Baptism.
In KS1 RE – Belonging is a term that children will learn and become familiar with. It is a topic that comes up a lot when talking about religion, because religious communities provide some people with a feeling of belonging. This is why people attend places of worship and spend time with people with the same faith.
Year 1 are learning all about different settlements. We have been finding out about the features of villages, towns and cities.
Year 1 had a lovely day celebration Mary’s birthday. Mary is the Patron Saint of our School. We created a picture of Mary and thought about lots of words to describe her.
We all thought about and recorded our own prayer to Mary. We all sang happy birthday to Mary and enjoyed some birthday cake.
This week in Design and Technology year 1 used different materials to build shelters. They designed their shelter and then used wood, bricks, crates and fabric. It was great to see them work together. Well done year 1
