Year 4

2025-2026

As part of our Geography topic, Rivers, the children have been learning about the journey of a river and its key features. They have explored how landforms such as meanders and oxbow lakes are created. On 23rd January, the children took part in a local fieldwork walk to Grimsby Town centre, where they observed the River Freshney and identified some of its features in the local environment. Later in the term, the children will complete a comparative study of the River Freshney and the River Loire in France. They will examine and compare the rivers’ physical features, their importance for tourism, and the threats faced by each river.

2023-2024

In writing, year 4 have been using the Jason Wade cluster approach combined with Rainbow grammar to write their own version of a traditional tale. As our Pentecost 1 topic was studying Australia, we chose an Australian folk tale.  “The Galah and Oolah the Lizard”. We focused on including speech and new vocabulary within our writing.

Year 4 made a visit to The Deep Aquarium in Hull. As part of there Geography topic ‘Australia: The Great Barrier Reef’. It was a very exciting and engaging opportunity for the Children learning about coral. On the day they took part in educational talks and participated in a coral reef workshop named ‘Life on the Reef’.

Year 4 looked at work by the Australia artist Lee Panizza. We looked at abstract art and how we could use shapes to make an intricate design. We explored different paints and how best to use them and made our own abstract artwork to reflect a mood.

Well done year 4 🎨⭐️

Year 4 have been writing a setting description of a garden. This is the work they produced.

Rue – Miss Campbell’s Hermanns tortoise came to visit. We are writing a non-chronological report all about them. We decided that by looking closely at one and being able to hold it, we would be able to write an accurate and correct paragraph about their appearance.

In science we kicked off our Physics topic – Sound. We carried out an experiment carousel to answer our question “How can we visualise sound vibrations?” We also learnt how sound waves are formed.

Pupils learning about solids, liquid and gases

Year 4 learning all about healthy snacks and making some delicious popcorn.
