Religious Education 1

At St Mary’s, we provide a rich and engaging Religious Education that supports pupils’ spiritual growth and understanding of the Catholic faith. Children learn about Scripture, the teachings of the Church, the sacraments, prayer, and key figures in Catholic life.

Our curriculum is progressive and thematic, allowing pupils to build on their knowledge each year from Nursery to Year 6. We also teach about other world religions, including Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism, promoting respect and understanding.

We aim to inspire a love of learning and a deep sense of faith, while encouraging pupils to recognise the dignity of every person, created in the image and likeness of God. Religious Education at St Mary’s fosters awe, wonder and reflection, offering a truly meaningful and unique learning experience.

The Religious Education Directory (RED) underpins teaching and learning at our school, guiding what pupils learn, understand and experience as they grow in faith. Rooted in Scripture, Tradition and Church teaching, it provides a clear and progressive framework that supports pupils in developing their understanding of the Catholic faith and living out Gospel values in their daily lives.

The curriculum is organised into key “branches”, which represent the main areas of learning within Religious Education.
